Doug MacDonald Bio

Doug MacDonald is a Massachusetts musician. “The Lonely Guy” as he is known is a guitarist, drummer and songwriter from Braintree. He began as a drummer, playing for several bands at many classic music venues in Boston including The Paradise, the Channel and Jumping Jack Flash. By 1986 he was writing songs while playing drums for Boston band The Peepers, along with his brother Stephen. He began diving into his song writing in earnest and by 1991 he was performing acoustic guitar shows, showcasing his original material. In 1992 he started the legendary band Lonely Guy and Tidal Wave along with bassist Crazy Legs and drummer Cuddles. His unique song-writing take on life was greatly influenced by his time working in commercial grocery stores with Crazy Legs and Cuddles.  Cuddles left the band as he was tired of Doug's constant spate of songs about the grocery industry, ironically to focus on his career in the grocery industry. He was replaced by Whiskas who would be the steady force on drums for the next six years. Tidal Wave remained a constant on the Boston music scene until the late 90's, performing their classics like "Leo's Theme", "Surfer Hound", "Let's Fight Like Vikings" and "All The Flower Children Are Dead."

In the late 90's, Doug returned to the drums playing for Blanket Party, The Chubbs, Midget Jesus, Console and the legendary irreverent Delusions along with Matty And Danny from Black And Grey. Doug explained' "When people find out you play drums everyone wants you" During this period he recorded a new Lonely Guy album and then took a break, playing solo acoustic shows. After several Tidal Wave reunion shows he began  a new duo project with drummer Patty Short called The Doug MacDonald Band. They played for ten years recording several albums featuring signature Lonely Guy tunes like "Mr Bones" "Chelsea By The Sea" and "D Street". Doug then took a two year hiatus and has returned to playing with his new project featuring a new record, StageLight with a new incarnation of the Doug MacDonald Band. Doug will soon be hitting the stage and rocking the house from the south shore to the north shore and beyond.
